Beyond the net

I take a breath, see it rise
in that chilly autumn air,
scowling in the knowledge
that life just isn’t fair.

Trying to escape the rock
and that hard place,
the new me was born.
Old me gone, without a trace

Worries and doubts ever jeering
-Hurry up and remove the net
Let him go, let him fly
We’ll see how far he’ll get!-

Their ridicule pulls me back
Shackles of my own invention
But to rush forward, yes, that’s
somehow still my sole intention

Will I be superman and fly
Kiss the clouds, greet the sun
or am I Icarus, who came too close
Find out we will, for it cannot be
