Late night, or early morning?

It’s just a triviality as your
imminent departure drives
our lighthearted conversation.

Here, cold autumn air condenses the
slow breaths escaping our chests,
obscuring this old night
from the advance of dawn.

Monotone announcements cycle,
their messages drowned out
by the wanting in our eyes.

Kisses stolen amidst parked cars,
while a vague urgency lingers around us.

Fingers resist letting go.

They dance,
wiggle and turn
reaching for the presence they have come to know
What do I tell them as I watch her go?

Shared time is priceless.
Treasure the touch, words, and gaze

Daylight arrived, illuminating our travels.

We have started
counting down the days
